Evidence suggests that breakdown in the bladder-brain communication pathway are the root cause of overactive bladder symptoms. The Medtronic Bladder Control Therapy delivered by the InterStim system uses gentle nerve stimulation to correct the bladder-brain communication pathway and restore bladder function.

The Interstim system restores bladder function by stimulating the sacral nerves.  It involves placement of a small lead to the nerves in the sacrum that control the bladder. This is connected to an MRI safe battery device placed under the skin which can be controlled with an external device to retrain the bladder-brain communication pathways.

Unlike other bladder control treatments, this therapy lets you try it first with a test run, prior to making a long-term commitment. The trial lasts 1-2 weeks so you can track your symptom improvement to know this is the right option for you
