Urinary tract stones are formed from deposits of minerals that precipitate from the urine. If a stone formed in the kidney moves into the ureter (the tube between the kidney and the bladder) severe pain and kidney obstruction can occur. A stone in the ureter needs urgent attention and may require surgical removal. Prevention of further stone formation with diet and fluid management is essential to reduce the risk of recurrent stone formation.
