Stress urinary incontinence is when urine leaks out due to an increase in pressure (or "stress') on the part of the pelvic floor that keeps the water pipe (urethra) closed. It is typically triggered by coughing, sneezing, running etc. It is different to "urge" incontinence, which is a problem with the bladder wall muscle, not the pelvic floor.
